It's December first and my Christmas tree is up. H.H and I put it up last weekend actually. As I was pulling out all of my ornaments from boxes, I came across some snowflake ornaments that I made last year. I found the instructions for these somewhere on Internet, but can't remember the web site where I found them. I thought I would just share them with you and give you a mini tutorial.
Materials for one snowflake:
10 hat pins
An assortment of beads (a mix of sizes work well)
A wine bottle cork
sparkly glue
clear fishing string

Instructions:- Using a utility knife, slice a piece of the cork to 1/4" thickness
- Take your hatpins and thread on some beads until you have about 1/4" left on the end of the pins
- Push 8 of the pins into the cork snugly forming a snowflake shape around the diameter of the cork
- Push the remaining 2 pins into the centre of the flat portion of the cork - one on each side
- Take your sparkly glue and cover the entire cork to hide the cork colour
- Let dry over night
- Now tie on your fishing string to one of the pins (doesn't matter which one)
And there you have it! A beautiful snowflake to hang on your tree!
You could choose any colour of beads. I chose clear coloured ones because I wanted a natural look. My tree is a silver and gold theme, so I thought the clear beads would look best.
If any of you decide to make some snowflakes, I would love to see them. Send me a picture!
